Peek material processing technology?

PEEK material is a high-temperature, high-performance thermoplastic special engineering plastic with good mechanical properties, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and hydrolysis resistance.

When processing PEEK materials, the characteristics of PEEK materials should be fully considered, and necessary adjustments should be made in the use of tools and processing parameters. Especially for PEEK materials with a slightly larger size, heat treatment should be carried out after rough machining to eliminate internal stress in order to avoid material bursting, The parts are deformed, and finally qualified high-quality products are processed.

Turning. According to processing different grades of PEEK materials to choose processing tools, generally you can choose YW1 or YW2 general-purpose cemented carbide tools, it is better to choose diamond tools. The hardness and rigidity of high-speed steel (white steel knife) are too low, and it is easy to wear. Coolant should be used during machining to reduce wear and heat conduction; otherwise, during machining, the high temperature caused by the friction between the tool and the end face of the product will cause the material to melt. For processing thin-walled parts, due to its poor rigidity and weak strength, if it is directly clamped with the jaws of the three-jaw chuck, it is easy to produce deformation, increase the shape error of the part, and the circumference of the part cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, clamping methods such as open sleeves or spring chucks should be used when processing thin-walled products. It is also possible to change the direction of the tightening force, changing from radial clamping to axial clamping, that is, clamping with some pressing tools. Choose the cutting amount reasonably. The cutting amount has the greatest impact on the amount of cutting. Therefore, the amount of cutting and cutting speed should be reduced when cutting thin-walled sleeves. Properly increasing the rake angle when turning PEEK materials can make the turning tool sharp, smooth chip removal, reduce the friction between the cutting and the rake face, and reduce the cutting force and cutting heat. Properly increasing the blade inclination angle can increase the actual rake angle of the turning tool, reduce the arc of the cutting edge, and improve the sharpness of the tool. Thereby reducing the cutting force and cutting heat. According to the feature that the axial bearing capacity of the thin-walled sleeve is larger than the radial bearing capacity, appropriately increasing the entering angle can reduce the back force and reduce the deformation of the workpiece. Properly increasing the secondary deflection angle can reduce the friction between the secondary cutting edge and the workpiece and reduce the cutting heat. Properly reducing the radius of the tool tip arc can reduce the back force and thus reduce the deformation of the workpiece, but it should not be too small. If it is too small, it will affect the surface roughness of the workpiece and reduce the heat dissipation area of the tool tip.

Milling processing. When milling, the feed rate should be small, and the coolant should be sufficient, otherwise the surface of the product will be discolored and yellow when the cutting heat generated is too large; try to use the end milling cutter with large rake angle, good chip removal, and sharpness; When clamping, full consideration should be given to the deformation of the product after processing, and the clamping force and workpiece clamping method should be properly controlled.

Drilling processing. It is not possible to directly drill with a large drill. You can first drill with a drill with a diameter of less than 10mm, then use a smaller boring tool to boring, and finally use a large boring tool to boring; when drilling, you must repeatedly retract the drill bit row. Chips; it is necessary to ensure that the cutting fluid is cooled sufficiently and in time to quickly reduce the heat, appropriately reduce the drilling feed rate, and when the drill bit is worn, the drill bit must be repaired in time.

Special attention should be paid when tapping thread processing materials. PEEK material is more wear-resistant, and the tapping wear will be very fast, so the thread size should be checked frequently. After the tap is worn out, the product is easily deformed or even cracked due to the increase in the extrusion force. When tapping, the tap must be coated with coolant or tapping oil, and the feed rate should be small. When tapping deep holes, try to tap multiple times in segments.
